ROBITUSSIN (Guaifenesin)
Ingredients:
per 5ml (1 tsp) syrup
  • Guaifenesin 100mg (expectorant)
WHEN TO USE
Chest congestion, thick mucous
If your child's cough is very mild – only a few coughs per hour – and it is not interfering with sleep; or if he has chest congestion with mucous that is difficult to cough up, then I recommend an expectorant. This will thin the mucous that is causing the cough and make it easier to cough up.
Add-on therapy
If your child has a cold and you are using another cold or cough medication, you can help thin the thick mucous by giving him an expectorant as well. Guaifenesin can be given with any over-the-counter cough or cold remedy as long as Guaifenesin is not already one of the ingredients.

SAFETY/SIDE EFFECTS

There are usually no side effects related to this medication. Uncommon side effects include: stomach upset, drowsiness, headache or rash. It is safe to give Guaifenesin with antibiotics, fever reducers, and other cold remedies (as long as Guaifenesin is not already one of the ingredients).
